BACU PADENTE
Bacu Padente is a spectacular adventure route in the heart of Ogliastra, on the Golgo Plateau, leading down towards the emerald-green waters of the Gulf of Orosei.
From the Golgo Plain, we take the main dirt road that passes around the small country church of San Pietro and reaches the Ololbissi area in approximately 20 minutes. From the same area where the trail to Cala Biriala begins, we also take the path leading towards Bacu Padente.
As we begin our descent towards the sea, we quickly reach the beginning of the canyon. Instead of entering the gorge itself, however, we remain on the right-hand side of the gorge and follow the limestone walls, which gradually become higher and more imposing.
The cliffs become increasingly narrow until we reach the final section of the route, where we face three spectacular rope descents of 30, 20 and 30 metres, in that order.
The scenery surrounding us is breathtaking. We overlook the coastline of the Gulf of Orosei, famous for its emerald-green sea, towering cliffs and beautiful coves set within a rugged and wild landscape.
The final 30-metre rappel takes us into the heart of Bacu Padente, where we prepare for a particularly exciting passage through a cave. The cave allows us to cross through the rock and reach a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the sea.
From here, three further short rappels of approximately 10 metres each lead us towards the final and spectacular descent.
During the route, we will cross the Selvaggio Blu trail, one of the most famous trekking routes in Sardinia. The route crosses the wild landscape of the Gulf of Orosei, passing cliffs, hidden coves and ancient paths, with overnight stays in traditional shepherds' shelters and spectacular wilderness camps.
At the final descent, there are two different anchor options. The first is a large juniper tree, which is easy to identify; the second is an anchor directly on the rock face.
The first option leads directly onto the cliff. Particular attention is required here to finish the rappel on the first rocky ledge without descending any further than necessary. The second option leads towards a small cave located just a short distance from the sea. Both descents offer an especially spectacular experience.
Once the descent is complete, we head north before ascending along the left-hand side of Bacu Padente. During the ascent, we once again meet the Selvaggio Blu trail and enjoy spectacular views from above over the first three rappels we completed at the beginning of the route.
