THE SISCIA CANYON
The Siscia Canyon is a recently explored gorge located near Sassari, in the area of Cargeghe.
The surrounding landscape is characterised by limestone and tuff rock formations. Above the canyon, the Giorré plateau rises with its impressive cliffs, home to the spectacular Giorré via ferrata.
Siscia is easily reached by following the SP3 road out of the small village of Cargeghe. After approximately one kilometre, a turn-off on the left leads to an unpaved road where it is possible to park 3 or 4 cars.
From the parking area, we follow the small track past the old mill and reach the river after just 200 metres.
We cross a small footbridge and, after a short scrambling section on the left, reach the riverbed.
From the very first metres, what immediately catches our attention is the extremely lush vegetation. In some sections, it almost feels as though we are entering a real mangrove jungle.
But the most distinctive feature of Siscia is undoubtedly the impressive limestone formations that have shaped the canyon. Parts of the riverbed and the large rocky cavities around us have taken on an almost cave-like appearance, creating a fascinating environment where the formations resemble stalactites and stalagmites.
Many of the abseils take place alongside waterfalls, allowing us to experience the canyon from a truly spectacular perspective. The highest abseil is 15 metres.

The Siscia Canyon is particularly suitable for beginners who want to experience canyoning for the first time.
The route is fun and varied, combining abseils, waterfalls, sections through the gorge, water and short exploratory passages in a very unusual natural environment.
It is precisely the combination of water, rock, lush vegetation and spectacular limestone formations that makes Siscia such an original and surprising canyoning experience.
At the end of the canyon, a pleasant 25–30 minute uphill walk brings us back to the starting point and our vehicles.
